Roy Frank Wiley, Sr., 80, of Ashburn, passed away on August 8, 2025, at his residence.
Roy was born on September 13, 1944, in Warwick, GA, to the late Tom Taft Wiley and the late Mary Lizzie Bruce Wiley. He was of the Baptist faith having been baptized at the Davis Grist Mill Pond in Worth County, GA. Mr. Wiley enlisted in the US Army at the young age of 18. He served in the 1st Infantry Division-Artillery Unit (aka The Big Red One) and served two tours in active combat on the front lines during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, Roy returned home to Ashburn where he started his public service of 37 years in law enforcement. He had the pleasure of serving as Captain with the Ashburn Police Department, Chief of the Sycamore Police Department and ended his career as the Sheriff of Turner County, proudly serving the citizens of Turner County, GA. Afterwards, he enjoyed a quiet peaceful life on the farm raising cattle.
Roy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathy Carter Wiley; son, Frank (Amanda) Wiley of Orlando, FL; daughters Suzanne (Jeff) Antoine of Ponte Vedra, FL, Sandra Nielsen of Peoria, AZ, Sheila (Mark) Cruikshank of Meridian, ID; sister, Montine Hudson; grandchildren, Austin, Jacob, and Graham Wiley, Aiden, Savannah, and Ian Antoine, Jessica (Kevin) Rockett and Lelund (Amanda) Nielsen and Michael (Nienke) Cruikshank.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Louise Wiley and brother-in-law, Bob Hudson.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bethel Baptist Church, Sycamore, GA on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 3:00 PM with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Bethel Baptist Church.
