Rodney Junior Harrell

Rodney Junior Harrell, 57, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, formerly of Turner County, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Light House Village in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Rodney was born on November 20, 1967 in Turner County to the late John A and Doris Jean McElhaney Harrell. He had worked in construction for several years. Rodney is remembered for wading in the water to fish, an activity he loved to do. He was a fan of all sports and loved the Georgia Bulldogs. In his younger years he was an avid basketball player and long distance runner. He placed second in a state running competition and came close to breaking that event’s record.

He is survived by his brother, Adam (Jennifer) Harrell of Jacksonville, North Carolina; sisters, Molly Harrell of Ashburn and Cheryl Harrell of Ashburn. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Sowell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Perry Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of services Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Perry Funeral Chapel.
