Martha Jane Freeman Brooks

Martha Jane Freeman Brooks, 81, of Ashburn passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Harborview in Tifton.

Martha was born on February 5, 1945 to the late Clifford Freeman and Gladys Allene Freeman Adkins. She was a Certified Medical Assistant having worked for Dr. Edwin Herrera. She was also a member of Rebecca Baptist Church. Martha took decorating classes and proudly baked and decorated cakes for numerous people in Turner County. She loved working in her yard and grew the most beautiful flowers, especially her day lilies and the red amarillos that stood tall around the old pecan tree in the front yard. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Nanny. She built a home filled with love, laughter, fun, imagination, dancing and bonfires. Those special memories with her grandchildren have remained with them throughout their lives and shaped them into the adults they are today.

She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Pate (Mike Cook) of Tifton and Jennifer Pate Lumsden of Tifton; sister, Jeanette Freeman Atkinson of Douglasville; grandchildren, Katie (Adryan) Camargo, Matt (Aly) Lumsden, Amanda Walls, Heather Brooks, Amber Brooks, Garren Baldree, Christina Fletcher and Joseph Scarberry; great-grandchildren, Penny Lane, Sonya, Allison, Xavier, Gracee, Kataleigha, Gracelynn, Summer, Ryder, Harper, Addie, Ella and Rylan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Warren Brooks, Sr.; son, James (Jim) Thomas Pate, Jr.; brothers, Bobby Freeman and Billy Freeman; brother-in-law, Johnny Atkinson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Perry Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Perry Funeral Chapel. interment will be private.
