Marie Scarborough Coffey, born on November 3, 1940 to the late Greenberry Wade and Mary Neva Turner Scarborough, in Dooly County, Georgia, passed away on February 19, 2026, in Ashburn, Georgia. She lived a life marked by dedication, love for her family, and a spirit filled with joy and creativity.
Marie enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Peanut Seed Inspector for Goldkist, contributing her expertise and diligence to the agricultural community. Her professional journey also included a significant role in retail at Roobins for many years, reflecting her versatile skill set and commitment to her work.
Beyond her career, Marie's interests enriched her life and the lives of those around her. She found joy in the simplicity of fishing and had a passion for watching football and NASCAR, sharing those moments with friends and family alike. Her love for dancing brought happiness and energy to many family gatherings. Marie’s talent for coloring and doing word puzzles was a testament to her creative spirit and her ability to find pleasure in everyday activities.
Deeply devoted to her family, Marie cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a bright light in her life. Cooking was another way she expressed her love, often gathering her family around the table for meals filled with warmth and affection.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Van Coffey of Ashburn; daughters, Sherry Lynn (Kurt) Zammit of Perry, Linda W. (Jack) Peavy of Fort Valley, Teresa W. (John) Gordon of Cordele and Michelle M. (James) McGinnis of Cordele; sons, John P. (Deidre) of Coffey of Sycamore and Hayden V. Coffey of Cordele; brothers, John R. (Helga) Scarborough of Leesburg, Gerald V. (Nedra) Scarborough of Cordele and Bobby D. (Doris) Scarborough of Vienna; sisters-in-law, Betty Roehrick of Orlando, Florida, Sandra Harpe of Ashburn, Vivian Nelson of Dennison, Texas and Janet Headrick of Vienna. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Marie’s legacy will be celebrated during a memorial service on February 25, 2026, at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn, Georgia. The service will begin at 2:00 PM, with an opportunity for reflection and remembrance to honor a life well-lived.
Marie Scarborough Coffey will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for her loving spirit, generous heart, and the indelible impact she had on all who knew her. As we gather to celebrate her life, we hold dear the memories of her laughter, her love for family, and her unwavering kindness.
