James L. "Lindy" Bryant

James L. “Lindy” Bryant passed away on February 23, 2023. He was 84 years old.

Lindy is survived by Betty Story Bryant, his wife of over 60 years, his sons, James Jr. (Stephanie) and Alex (Stephanie), his brother, Jack and four grandchildren.

Lindy was a lifelong resident of Atlanta, having grown up on Willard Avenue and later moving to Tucker to raise his family and Lilburn to retire. He spent his career at the Georgia Department of Transportation after graduating from Brown High School in 1956. His first job at the DOT was analyzing soil samples for new roadways, and he was eventually promoted to the head of Audits and Fiscal Procedures. He retired in 1989. For a few years in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s he and his brother Jack ran two rides the family owned at the Great Southeastern Fair in south Atlanta at the Lakewood Fairgrounds. He was a mechanic in the Air National Guard and served in the Air Force. He earned a business degree from Georgia State University in 1968, having put himself through night school for eight years while working during the day and with a young son at home. Lindy loved antiquing and knew something about even the most obscure antiques he found. He was especially proud of his collection of antique tools. Lindy also enjoyed woodworking and could fix or build almost anything.

He was a devoted husband to Betty, who he met in 1960 at the DOT. They married two years later in Amboy Baptist Church.

Lindy was a wonderful grandfather to his four grandchildren, Emily, Mary, Ian, and Dylan and could hours on end playing with them.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, sons, and grandchildren.
