Howard Michael Hasty

Howard Michael Hasty, lovingly known as “Pop”, passed away at the age of 80 on November 29, 2025. Born in the Bethel Community of Tift County and raised in the Primitive Baptist faith, Pop lived a life marked by devotion–to God, to family, to service, and to country. Pop was ordained as an elder in May, 2021 and had recently been pastor of Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church.

At just 17 years old, Pop made the decision to join the United States navy, where he served honorably. During his time in the Navy, he was selected for the prestigious U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard in Washington D.C. In this role, he took part in moments of profound national significance, including the funerals of President John F. Kennedy and General Douglas MacArthur. He later served aboard the USS Guadalcanal, where he was part of the team involved in the recovery of the Gemini II astronauts, a mission that stands as a profound milestone in American space history.

Pop is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Hasty of Rebecca; his sons, Chris (Joy) Hasty of Valdosta and Stuart (Melanie) Hasty of Valdosta; his beloved grandchildren, Cason, Will, Kate, and Abby Hasty, who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Lord, his brothers, Bill and Butch Hasty, and several nieces and nephews who cherished him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hasty;his mother, Corrine Hasty; his sister, Jen Reed; and his brother, Stan Hasty.

Pop will be remembered for the faith, integrity, humor, and strength that defined his life. He held deep affection for his family and community, and those who knew him were blessed by his kindness, and wisdom.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Rainey Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of services at Rainey Cemetery.
