CW4 (Retired) John B. West, Jr., 79 of LaGrange, GA passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice.

Mr. West was born November 14, 1946 in Tifton, GA, son of the late John Bolden West, Sr. and Imogene Barker West. Mr. West served his country in the U.S. Army, retiring after 21 years with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He was employed with Milliken and Company as the safety officer until his retirement. Mr. West was a member of Callaway Baptist Church and a HAM operator with the call sign KD4 BXR. Mr. West served as the President of the Military Officers Association (MOAA), LaGrange Chapter and served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Mr. West is survived by his wife, Mary Christopher West of LaGrange, GA; children, John Christopher West of Auburn, AL and Tammy West Barton of LaGrange, GA; grandchildren, Kimberly Rogers (Andrew), Caleb Tyson, and Gus Barton, all of LaGrange, GA; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Debbie Phelps (Ed) of LaGrange, GA; brother, Jerry Y. West (Judy) of Tifton, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 21, 2026 at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand with Rev. Brad Thompson officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be on Friday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. The graveside committal service, with military honors, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Sycamore, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Callaway Baptist Church, LaGrange, GA, Building Fund, or to Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Mr. John B. West, Jr.
