Clifford Evan Free, 82, of Ashburn passed away early Friday morning, February 23, 2024.
Clifford was born on May 30, 1941 in Mitchell County to the late Clyde Thomas and Janie Dennis Free. He was self-employed for 47 years as the owner and operator of Ashburn Tire Service. He also served his country proudly in the National Guard for many years. A member of Christian faith, he attended Morningside Baptist Church in Ashburn where he was a devoted member and Sunday School teacher. Clifford loved to work and also enjoyed hunting when time allowed.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leona Hooks Free of Ashburn; children, Bruce (Debbie) Free of Sycamore and Angie (Ed) Hill of Ashburn; sister, Jeanette (James H.) Butler of Camilla; grandchildren, Chris (Misty) Free, Amanda (Colby) Chung, Nicole Cooper, and Aultman Hill; and 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Claude Thomas Free.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn. The family will greet friends from 2:00 PM until the hour of service.
