Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Clara C. Shivers, 91, of Ashburn, GA will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in The Live Oak Cemetery. Mrs. Shivers passed away Monday at Heritage Health Care following an extended illness.
The daughter of the late James David and Iva Edna Newton Courtoy she was born in Turner County, GA. As a long time and faithful member of The Ashburn First United Methodist Church, she also taught Sunday School for a long number of years. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Carson B. Shivers.
Mrs. Shivers will be remembered by many as an employee for Dr. E. J. Tison, DDS, in Ashburn. Before becoming a certified dental assistant, she worked for a group of medical doctors for many years. Mrs. Clara has served as president, program and scrapbook chairman of the Southwestern Dental Assistants Association and won awards as outstanding dental assistant of the association for three consecutive years. In 1966 she won the Clinic Award for two years at the Georgia state meetings. She also had won many other awards in her district and state associations.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
