James I. "Jim" Brown, 75, of Ashburn passed away August 17, 2020 in Monticello, Georgia.

Jim was born on August 20, 1944 in Tifton to the late Walter Montgomery and Leila Maxine Atkinson Brown. He was a retired educator for the Turner County Board of Education and a member of First Baptist Church in Ashburn. Jim grew up in Ashburn and attended school in Rebecca and Ashburn. While in school he played basketball and baseball. He graduated from Turner County High School in 1962. In 1966 he graduated from Georgia Southern with a BBA Degree. Upon completion of college he returned to Ashburn where he taught a business class at Turner County High School from 1966-1970. From 1970-1984 he worked for the Rigdon Family Business and the Georgia RE Broker/Insurance. For four years, 1980-1984, he served as Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Ashburn. He was the co-owner of the "Pizza Palace" and from 1984-2013 was a Cable General Manager/Cable Consultant. Jim also served as a (retired) substitute teacher and after school coordinator for the Turner County School System. During that time he was the Southern Regional Technical College GED instructor.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Collis Brown of Ashburn; son, Daniel Slaughter; daughters, Katrina Brown of Ashland, Oregon, Sandy Slaughter Sheppard of Sandersville and Rebecca Slaughter of Monticello; brothers, Monty Brown of Vera Beach, Florida and Richard Brown of Ashburn; grandchildren, Kerrian Dianne Treadwell, Payton Sheppard, Wyatt Renaud, Anabelle Sheppard and Harris "Isham" Meether.

Funeral services will be private.
