Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, Ga. at 2:00 PM., on Wednesday. Ms. Baxter passed away Saturday at Tift Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Ashburn, Georgia to the late Dr. James Hubert and Anna May Stevens Baxter and had lived in Turner Co. her entire life. Florence was the youngest of five children: James Hubert Baxter, Jr., Harry Stevens Baxter, Edward Henry Baxter and Lucy Frances Baxter.

She was a faithful and longtime member of the Ashburn First United Methodist Church. Florence graduated from Ashburn High School and the University of Ga. She continued to improve her craft through graduate studies at the University of Ga. Her career in teaching English spanned forty-nine years beginning at Ashburn and Turner County High Schools. She continued her career as an associate professor at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in the Humanities Dept., retiring in 1992. Her students will remember her as an exacting teacher, but fair and caring. Her interests were varied. As a sports enthusiast she participated in sports and followed basketball, football, baseball and tennis. She enjoyed gardening and traveling and spent a great deal of time doing both. She traveled to many foreign countries and to many parts of the U.S. with family and friends. Florence loved her family and friends, supporting, nurturing and enjoying their company. The traditions and home of her family were important to her, and she was steadfast in her commitments.

Survivors include her sister, Lucy B. Ham of Southampton, New York, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from Seven till Eight-Thirty at Perry Funeral Chapel.
