John R. Nelson

Funeral services of John R. Nelson, age 87, 857 Reynolds Lane, Jacksonville, Fl., will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Perry Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Nelson died Sunday, June 5, 2005 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mr. Nelson was born in Tift County, Georgia and was the son of the late John N. & Florence Mae Stevens Nelson. He had resided in Jacksonville for many years and was a retired tile and stone mason. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Turner County and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Virginia Hornesby Nelson, Jacksonville, Fl., three sons, Steve Nelson, Deepstep, Ga., Larry Nelson, Jacksonville, Fl., John David Nelson, Ashburn, and Jerry Nelson, San Antonio, Texas; one daughter. Ginger Horton, Jacksonville, Fl. He is also survived by two brothers, James F. Nelson and Henry Nelson both of Ashburn, Ga.; four sisters, Gertrude Jones and Ruthie Mae Whiddon, both of Ashburn, Ga., Mary Hartman, Jacksonville, Fl., and Virginia Venable, Fairhope, Ala. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn.
