Elizabeth Talmadge

Graveside funeral services for Elizabeth “Betty” Shingler Talmadge, age 81, 3747 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, Ga. will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn, Ga. Mrs. Talmadge died Saturday, May 7, at Piedmont Hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Talmadge was born in Ashburn, Turner County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Clinton F. Shingler, Sr. and Stella Julian Shingler. She was a homemaker and businesswoman and was the founder of Talmadge Hams in Lovejoy, Ga. She was a former First Lady of Georgia and was the former wife of former Governor and U.S. Senator Herman E. Talmadge. Mrs. Talmadge was of the Methodist Faith.

She is survived by one son, Gene Talmadge of Lovejoy, Ga. Also surviving are eight grandchildren Herman Talmadge III, Tyler Talmadge, Mitt Talmadge, Murphy Talmadge, Ramsay Talmadge, Katherine Talmadge, Robert Talmadge and Libby Talmadge and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert “Bobby” Shingler Talmadge and three brothers, Simon Shingler, Clinton Shingler, and Julian Shingler.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 9, 2005 from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the residence of Gene Talmadge, 215 Talmadge Rd., Lovejoy, Ga. 30250
