Reverend Morgan Gilbert Hinson of Sycamore passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Monday morning, August 25, 2014. He was born December 18, 1917 in Bleckley Georgia and was the son of the late John Bunyan and Della Garrett Hinson.
He was ordained a Baptist Minister in 1965 and for 47 years he faithfully served the Lord at various churches throughout the Little River Baptist Association, Mell Baptist Association, and Turner Baptist Association. After his retirement he continued to speak and be active in the ministry in churches throughout South Georgia.
In 1940 he married Velma Loyce Whitten, who supported her husband in all aspects of his ministry , until her death in 2012.

Reverend Hinson is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Myra (Shep) Brock of Hilliard, FL; Peggy (Jimmy) Summers of Tifton, GA; and Tammy (Lamar) Miller of Nashville, GA. Also surviving are grandchildren: Rev. Sidney (Meredith) Brock of Fruitland, FL; Chad (Lisa) Brock and Shay Brock of Hillard, FL; LaDan Summers and Tracy (Brian) Bass of Tifton, GA; Layman (Amy) Summers of Waverly, TN; and Kala (Matt) Bennett of Adel, GA. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren. Rev. Hinson is also survived by his God Sent Angel and Caregiver, Von Pitts and his little buddy, “Brady”.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn, GA. The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church in Ashburn on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Rev. David Smith and Rev. Kenneth Kicklighter will officiate.Jonathan Perry will sing “He Touched Me” and “How Great Thou Art” with Judy B. Whitehead playing the piano. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Chula, GA where Rev. Sidney Brock, Grandson will preside over the committal services and will lead the attendants in “Amazing Grace” and he will also sing “Beulah Land”.

Active Pallbearers are grandsons: Chad Brock, LaDan Summers, Layman Summers, Brian Bass, Matt Bennett, and Rev. Sidney Brock. Honorary Pallbearers are great-grandsons: Trent and Trevor Brock, Hunter Summers and Sawyer Bass. Members of the Gilbert Branch Sunday School Class will sit in a honorary position in the church.
