Funeral Services for J. W. “Jake” Lumpkin, Sr. age 85 of Ashburn will be held Sunday at 3:00 P. M. at the Harmony Baptist Church in Turner County with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Lumpkin died Friday, January 3, 2014, after a sudden illness.

Mr. Lumpkin was a native of Worth County, GA, the son of the late Alton Lamar and Lois Clyde Lunsford Lumpkin. He was a retired Service Station Operator and Farm Equipment Salesman. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of The American Legion Post # 98. He also served two terms as an Ashburn City Councilman. During his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and operating a tractor during pecan harvesting season. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son Jim William Lumpkin, Jr., a sister Carolyn Lumpkin Lunsford and a brother Bobby Lumpkin.

Survivors include his wife Dot Lamb Lumpkin and son Jim (Leann) Lumpkin of Ashburn and his daughter Debbie (Martin) Young and granddaughter Audrey Young of Tifton, GA, and his brother Lamar (Jewell) Lumpkin of Valdosta, GA.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from Six until Eight P. M. at the funeral home.
