Vonice Bradley Shivers

November 13, 2013

Vonice Bradley Shivers went home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2013 surrounded by her family. Vonice was born in Darien, Georgia on July 1, 1932 to Noel Aubrey “Slim” Bradley and Doris K. Bradley. After graduating at the top of her class from Ashburn High School, Vonice graduated from Jones Business College in Brunswick, Georgia. On November 21, 1953 she married her Navy sweetheart Charles Belton Shivers and moved to Jacksonville, Florida where they have resided for 60 years.

Vonice began her career in Brunswick and then moved to Jacksonville, working at the American Bank and Atlantic Discount. However, her calling was in serving as a Childcare Director at Chappell School and concluding at Arlington Baptist Childcare. During this time she was one of the pioneers in the concept of “fine dining”. Vonice took great pleasure in listening to Elvis and visiting her and Charles’ beloved family cabin in Waynesville, North Carolina.

Vonice is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Charles Shivers, one son, Charles Shivers, Jr. (Kathy), daughter, Kristie Pettit (Jack), sister, Cheryl Bradley, four terrific grandchildren, Bradley Shivers (Lauren), Trent Pettit, Aubrey Shivers, Rebecca Pettit and Lisa Lord Lee (Tommy). Vonice is also survived by two beautiful great-granddaughters, Cara and Carsen Shivers.

She will be laid to rest at Live Oak Methodist Church in Rebecca, Georgia at a later date.
