Funeral services for Russell Connell, 79, of Ashburn will be held Monday, February 20, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ashburn First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mr. Connell died Friday at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany following an extended illness.

Mr. Connell was born in Nashville, Ga., the son of the late Carl & Estelle Parker Connell. He was a retired Ford tractor dealer. He was a member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Gilbert Branch Sunday School Class and had served on numerous church committees. He was a former Ashburn City Councilman and was a member of Sycamore Masonic Lodge #210. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Terry Connell in 1958, and one daughter Judy C. Moody in 2001, and one sister, Shelba Jean Connell.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie McCranie Connell, Ashburn, Ga.; two daughters, Diane C. Lott, Ashburn, Ga. and Kim C. (Todd) Applewhite, Chula, Ga. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jason Lott, Kellie Lott, Matt (Nikki) Moody, Lauren Moody, Abby Applewhite and Jack Applewhite; his great grandchildren, Jake & Josh Moody and Alysa Lott. He is also survived by two brothers, J.T. “Pete” (Alma) Connell, Tifton, Ga., Raymond (Angie) Connell, Enigma, Ga. and one sister, Jacqueline C. Sellars, Tifton, Ga. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.

Flowers will be accepted, however for those who wish, please make donations to the Ashburn First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
